ONDA presented at the “Italy-Japan Space Cooperation for Emerging Global Challenges” workshop

The ONDA platform was presented on 14 April during the “Italy-Japan Space Cooperation for Emerging Global Challenges” B2B Workshop, organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Tokyo and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) and in partnership with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the three Industrial Associations (AIAD, AIPAS and ASAS).

The event had the aim to showcase the expertise developed by the Italian space industry and to promote the technological excellences, with the ultimate objective to establish synergies and possible collaborations within the Japanese market.

Serco Italy was selected as one of the four expert speakers among the 30 Italian companies represented. Its activity – established in more than 40 years supporting European organisations to organise, store and disseminate the huge volume of Earth observation Data and to extract, process and archive valuable information – contributes to achieving the ambitious targets that Japan has set in the context of its space policy.

The Serco experience in Disaster Management, one of the key thematic applications listed by Japan, was showcased, with a view to providing a robust basis for future cooperation: the coordination of global Services (International Charter on Space and Major Disaster), the operation of data procurement for the Copernicus Core Services (including the 24/7 React service) and in particular the ONDA platform employed in supporting relief teams with information from Earth observation data as well as for the prevention of natural disasters.

A special focus was brought on EO-based applications developed with ONDA for Flood monitoring and Ground motion to support governments in detecting and mitigating disasters impacts. These applications exploit the multi-petabyte of Copernicus Sentinels data and leverage the cloud-based solutions of the digital platform for computing and storage.
